After the shock of seeing one of the main sources of funding for dance in the city of São Paulo being suspended in the beginning of 2009, dance professionals can now breathe: Secretaria municipal de Cultura has announced the 6th edition of Programa de Fomento à Dança.
Those interested in applying have up to April 28 to submit contemporary dance lasting projects or projects for the broadcast of independent artistic dance production. R$ 1,8 million will be assigned for the program, but R$ 250.000 is the maximum value awarded to a single project. The submissions must be made personally at the city hall´s Núcleo de Dança (Avenida São João 473, 6º andar), from Monday to Friday, from 10h to 12h and from 14h to 17h.
The release of the 6th edition of Programa de Fomento à Dança takes place a little over a month after the protest organized by São Paulo’s dance community against the suspension of this very program in the beginning of 2009. At the time, dance professionals gathered with Culture secretary Carlos Augusto Calil and handed him a petition with about one thousand signatures (click here to understand the controversy). The mobilization of the community also resulted in the payment of the projects awarded in the 5th edition of the program.

Obs:Não entendi por que o Edital da 6a edição fala tanto em valorizar e incentivar a produção de dança independente e exige o CNPJ. Fica uma questão: è obrigatório o CNPJ? Artista independente é “pessoa” e possui CPF. A não “institucionalização” do próprio artista ou de seu grupo, que não possui CNPJ, já é em si, uma das características da dança independente, de pesquisa e de criação contemporanea e uma posição política.
