buddypokes

Do you know buddy poke? Those 3D customized avatars? They appear a lot in social networks, virtually representing their ‘owners’, both physically and in behavior. And it was after observing buddy pokes that Núcleo B – composed by Bel Souza and Roberto Basílio – developed the Mercado Livre – buddy poke project, in which the proposal is to sell one minute of dance.

The Project has two stages: the first is virtual and the second, real. In the virtual stage, the participation of the audience is essential. The user can customize a buddy poke, save the image in PNG or JPG format and send it to nucleobssa@gmail.com with any chosen soundtrack. The received material will originate a minute long videodance by the hands of Núcleo B – check out some of finished works at movimento.org and at the international network mol project. Those who prefer, may also send a finished videodance.

The first videos that were finalized inspired the second stage of the project: a ‘real’ performance that premiered in April, in Salvador. “It´s an interactive performance. I´ve always had a strong relationship with the internet and I detected a gap in studies, many works about the subject, but research was lacking. My interest is in digital bodies, which have great popularity in Brazil and is of easy application. This makes the participation easier for those who don´t have much access to technology”, says Bel, who will defend her master’s thesis in dance at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) on June 30.

On account of the end of her masters, the Mercado Livre – buddy poke project is on hiatus, but will return in July. “We already have two videos waiting”, announces Bel. At the Núcleo B blog there are all the instructions for participating in Mercado Livre and some experiences with buddy pokes. Watch below Um minuto de relógio, which is participating along with Happy new year at dança em foco festival, which starts in the end of June, in Rio de Janeiro.
