Um conjunto habitacional constru\u00eddo nos anos 50, em Belo Horizonte, serviu de inspira\u00e7\u00e3o e loca\u00e7\u00e3o para o m\u00e9dia-metragem The big frost<\/strong><\/em>, mais recente projeto da Cia. Zikzira Teatro F\u00edsico<\/a>. Com cerca de 5 mil habitantes, nove blocos de apartamentos, e uma arquitetura moderna bel\u00edssima, o Bairro Popular – mais conhecido como IAPI – se tornou o grande ‘achado’ da companhia e mudou o rumo inicial do filme.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Durante nossa procura por loca\u00e7\u00f5es, nos deparamos com um universo muito interessante no IAPI. No meio daquela arquitetura forte havia mais de 5 mil pessoas morando, sentimos ao mesmo tempo uma solid\u00e3o e um formigueiro ali. A comunidade nos recebeu muito bem, foram todos receptivos. Conseguimos que tr\u00eas moradores cedessem seus apartamentos para n\u00f3s morarmos e gravarmos”, lembra a core\u00f3grafa da Zikzira, Fernanda Lippi. Para viver o cotidiano dos moradores do IAPI, a equipe envolvida na filmagem morou durante um m\u00eas no apartamento de dona Hermelinda.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dirigido pelo su\u00ed\u00e7o Andr\u00e9 Semenza – que tamb\u00e9m integra a Zikzira – o curta se passa em uma noite na vida de dois moradores do conjunto: uma mulher que nunca dorme e vive num mundo de fantasias e um homem son\u00e2mbulo que vagueia cantanto pelos corredores. “Eles nunca se encontram, apesar de ele morar no apartamento embaixo do dela. O canto dele a leva a entrar na fantasia do \u00fanico objeto que ela tem no quarto, o livro Orlando, de Virginia Woolf”, explica Fernanda. A mulher \u00e9 vivida pela bailarina australiana Paula Lay e o homem, pelo sopranista Rodrigo Firpi.<\/span><\/p>\n

A rela\u00e7\u00e3o que se firmou entre a Zikzira e o conjunto habitacional fez com que a companhia modificasse o rumo inicial do projeto, que acabou se ampliando. Em poucos dias, todos os envolvidos j\u00e1 estavam inseridos no cotidiano do local, que tem hor\u00e1rios e comportamentos espec\u00edficos. Essa liga\u00e7\u00e3o entre dan\u00e7a, espa\u00e7o e realidade suscita uma boa discuss\u00e3o: The big frost<\/strong><\/em> pode ser considerado videodan\u00e7a? “A arquitetura do lugar tem movimento, uma coreografia constante, mas eu n\u00e3o considero o filme reflexo da videodan\u00e7a feita hoje”, acredita Fernanda, lembrando que o ponto de partida do projeto foi a resid\u00eancia de Paula. “\u00c9 dif\u00edcil rotular, mas a motiva\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 diferente. Nosso objetivo n\u00e3o foi usar o corpo como ferramenta ou como elemento principal da hist\u00f3ria. Ele entrou no cotidiano realista”, acrescenta. Esse realismo tamb\u00e9m est\u00e1 simbolizado na figura do seu Chico, de 78 anos, h\u00e1 50 morando no IAPI. Ele foi convidado pela equipe para encarnar um seguran\u00e7a que ajuda a guiar o son\u00e2mbulo em uma das cenas. As filmagens duraram tr\u00eas semanas e terminaram no fim de julho e agora o material filmado est\u00e1 em fase de edi\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/span><\/p>\n

The big frost<\/strong><\/em> \u00e9 o resultado da resid\u00eancia da australiana Paula Lay, que passou tr\u00eas meses em Belo Horizonte, trabalhando com a Zikzira dentro do projeto Artist in residence. “Est\u00e1vamos sentindo a necessidade de trocar experi\u00eancias com outros artistas. Esse programa teria os moldes dos realizados nos anos 60, em que os artistas tinham mais tempo para trabalhar”, explica a core\u00f3grafa da Zikzira. “Queremos repetir a dose em 2010. Aceitamos inscri\u00e7\u00f5es de artistas nacionais e internacionais. Mas procuramos artistas realmente interessados em desenvolver uma pesquisa a longo prazo, aprofundada. N\u00e3o queremos funcionar apenas como uma ponte para institui\u00e7\u00f5es internacionais”.<\/span><\/p>\n

A housing project built in the 50\u2019s in Belo Horizonte was the inspiration and location for the short-film em>The big frost<\/strong>, the most recent project of Cia. Zikzira Teatro F\u00edsico<\/a>. Having about 5 thousand residents, nine apartment buildings and beautiful modern architecture, Bairro Popular \u2013 mostly known as IAPI \u2013 became the company\u2019s big discovery and changed the original course of the film.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDuring our search for locations, we encountered a very interesting universe at IAPI. There were over 5 thousand people living amidst that strong architecture, we felt loneliness and an anthill at the same time. The community received us warmly, everybody was very welcoming. We managed to have three residents borrow their apartments for us to live and film\u201d, remembers Zikzira choreographer Fernanda Lippi. In order to experience the daily life of the IAPI dwellers, the film crew lived in Misses Hermelinda\u2019s apartment for a month. <\/span><\/p>\n

Directed by Andr\u00e9 Semenza, from Sweden \u2013 who is also part of Zikzira \u2013 the film takes place in one night in the life of two residents: a woman who never sleeps and lives in a fantasy world and sleepwalker who wanders around the hallways, singing. \u201cThey never meet, even tough he lives in the apartment below hers. His singing makes her get inside the fantasy of the only object in the room, Virginia Woolf\u2019s Orlando\u201d, explains Fernanda. The woman is played by Australian dancer Paula Lay and the man is played by sopranist Rodrigo Firpi. <\/span><\/p>\n

The relationship established between Zikzira and the housing project lead the company to change the initial course of the project, which ended up expanded. In a few days, everybody involved in the shooting were already part of the routine of the place, which has specific schedules and behavior. The connection between dance, space and reality raises a very good debate: is The big frost<\/strong><\/em> videodance? \u201cThe place\u2019s architecture has movement, a constant movement, but I don\u00b4t consider the film to be reflex of the videodance being produced nowadays\u201d, states Fernanda, reminding that the project\u2019s starting point was Paula\u2019s residency. \u201cIt\u00b4s hard to label, but the motivation was different. Our goal was not to use the body as tool or as a main element of story. It entered the realist daily life\u201d, she adds. This realism is also symbolized by 78 year old seu Chico, who has been living at IAPI for the last 50 years. He was invited by the crew to play a security guard who helps guide the sleepwalker in one of the scenes. Shooting lasted three weeks and was finished in the end of July and now the footage is being edited. <\/span><\/p>\n

The big frost<\/strong><\/em> is the result Paula Lay\u2019s residency. She spent three months in Belo Horizonte, working with Zikzira within the Artist in residence project. \u201cWe were feeling the need to exchange experiences with other artists. This program would follow the pattern of those carried out in the 60\u2019s, when artists had more time to work\u201d, explains the Zikzira choreographer. \u201cWe want to repeat the experience in 2010. We are accepting submission from national and international artists. But we are looking for artists who are really interested in developing a long term, insightful research. We don\u00b4t want to be just a bridge between international institutions\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n
